Do you know your town?

ACTIVITY TYPE:  game

LEVEL: elementary

AGE: +10

TIME: 10 min

ARRANGEMENT: whole-class

SKILLS: listening

LEARNING STAGE: practice / consolidation

  

TOPICS: the city, the directions, places in the town

FUNCTIONS: giving directions
GRAMMAR: prepositions (next to, between, opposite), imperatives (go straight on, turn right,...)
DESCRIPTION:
The teacher is going to make a mental itinerary in the town (The town where students live).  We choose a start point (the main square, for example) and give directions that the students have to follow mentally (go down the street, take the second turning on the right, go straight on, etc) At last they have to guess what is the place we come to (the place that the teacher intended to go).  

Of course, it is neccesary that the students know well their own town.

LINGUISTIC INPUT:

Go ahead, go straight on, turn right, turn left, take the second turning on the left, it is opposite the cinema, it is around the corner, it is between the station and the park, it is next to the school,...

MATERIAL:

An alarm clock.
